It’s been a hot day and I’m drawn to the idea of a late swim. Perhaps a dip in the warm waters of the Cote D’Azur, in the south of France.
I’ll need some dazzling swimwear and a cap for my hair. And I’ll hum the tune to La Mer, which was written about the French Mediterranean coast.
Somewhere beyond the sea,
Somewhere waiting for me…
The woman at top with her back to us is a detail from a wonderful 1929 photo called Suntans by George Hoyningen-Huene.
Max Doyle took the photograph of the woman wearing the white bathing cap. I don’t have any other photo source details.
